Local furniture design competition open to all

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Solid Works and the SABS Design Institute, invites design students and established designers to participate in the Furniture Design Competition.

The aim of the competition is to nurture design capabilities in the country, raise the image of the South African furniture manufacturing industry and grow its competitiveness. The theme of the competition, “Future Public Spaces”, seeks to promote seating/waiting solutions for crowded waiting areas. The designs must promote the use of local inputs. Entrants will be expected to submit the technical drawing of the product (including the final product dimensions and 3D drawings), a description of the materials and inputs to be used in the production, and a description of the design and the concept behind the design.

For entry forms, entry details, terms and conditions of the competition, please contact the dti on 012 394 1260/3854, or email FurnitureDesign@thedti.gov.za
