Mia Mélange is a South African home decor & accessories label founded by Mia Danieli. Mia was born in Israel into a multicultural family, to a Swiss mom and an Israeli dad. Growing up in a multi-lingual home, traveling often and living in different countries explains her love for diverse cultures and new beginnings. After meeting a South African man which later became her husband, Mia moved to his hometown Stellenbosch where they are currently residing.
Mia graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Textile Design in 2013, after completing a four-year course at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design (Israel). Mia Mélange was born shortly thereafter.
Mélange means mixture / blend in French. It's also a type of yarn that is commonly used in the textile and fashion industries. The yarn is typically made up of different kinds of fibers, or different colored fibers, which are blended together in a certain fixed ratio. When applied correctly, mélange yarn can be knitted or woven into a rich multicolored / textured fabric, which can be used for various purposes. Mia Mélange basically means 'Mia's mix'- a combination of home decor and accessories with a strong emphasis on the bountiful world of textiles.
At Mia Mélange they aim to create timeless hand-crafted products, using only the best local ingredients and paying great attention to detail. They believe in quality over quantity and prefer hand work over machine whenever possible. Mia's designs are inspired by her love for nature, texture, natural materials and ancient crafting techniques. She likes to combine all of these to create modern and functional design.
Their items can be purchased in local designer shops across South Africa and in selected boutiques overseas. Mia Mélange is 100% handmade in South Africa.
