Enquiry point

WTO/TBT (Import/Export)

South Africa is a signatory to the World Trade Organization/Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement (WTO/TBT) and, as such, the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), mandated the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) to manage the National Enquiry and Notification Point. Simply put, the Enquiry Point facilitates trade. The National Enquiry Point engages with all reasonable enquiries, locally and internationally, giving assistance to the enquirers about relevant standards and technical regulations that need to be complied with. As a component of the Enquiry Point, the Early Warning System is an important tool that provides local industries with information on new technical regulations. Any exporting, or importing company, can subscribe to this service free of charge. Subscribers receive a weekly e-mail with all the draft technical regulations from across the world, on which you can comment. Every country has a 60 day comment period where you can raise concerns if any new measure may pose as a barrier to trade.
